Welcome to Deb Menz
Textile Artist
Using color in textiles has been the focus of my work for over 40 years. The textile techniques that I have incorporated have changed, or morphed from one to another with using more than one technique in a piece.
I began with dyeing for spinning - dyeing fibers or painting fibers then spinning them into unique multi-colored yarns. I incorporated the yarns into various weavings. From there, embroidery was next. Dyeing the threads was essential to get the right color and effect. Papermaking, was added next. The paper was cast over picture frames and objects, air brushed, then embellished and used for frames for the embroideries.
I needed to customize the fabric that was to be stitched on, so began to dye, stamp, print and paint onto the fabrics before stitching them.
I next embraced the use of a sewing machine to create thread painted pictures from my photographs. I somehow thought that would speed things up. It doesn’t, it is just different.
I have come to the point I can use any technique with another to create unique interpretations of colors of the world around me.
Join me on a journey through the art of creating textile wall pieces using dyeing, painting, printing, weaving, and embroidery. Every piece is crafted with care and attention to detail, making each one a personal work of art.
